The band played two tracks from the recently released full-length Oh Tall Tree In The Ear as well as “One Hundred Thousand Miles” from the They Say EP.

Paste certainly doesn’t have a shortage of love for Roman Candle, what with the magazine scoring Oh Tall Tree an 89 out of 100 and sponsoring a nationwide tour alongside The Deep Vibration.

The Foreign Exchange and Little Brother emcee Phonte Coleman cites Michael Jackson as the main reason why he is where he is, and says Jackson’s death has hit him on both an emotional and personal level.

“Being a young kid, being a music fan — and growing up wanting to do music — to see somebody like Michael Jackson on the screen and to see him on such a huge level; it was really inspiring for kids like me who had dreams of doing music themselves,” Phonte said.

Despite his recent personal troubles and battles with the media, Michael Jackson’s influence and legacy will forever live on in the music industry — not just for his songs, but also his high-energy performances

“He really pushed the boundaries artistically with his videos,” Phonte said. “He really took it and made it an art form … When he was doing his videos, he was having movie directors do his stuff — he had John Landis who did ‘Thriller,’ he had Martin Scorsese who did ‘Bad,’ he had Spike Lee who did ‘They Don’t Care About Us‘ — so he was really pushing that boundary and making a true art form as far as videos go.”

[UPDATE] Phonte posted a well thought out blog addressing the controversy that Jackson faced in the later years of his life.

This is a feature that was done by WLFL Fox 22 before it became known as CW22. It is a nice glimpse of the Triangle music scene in the early ’90s and contains interviews with Tom Maxwell from What Peggy Wants and Squirrel Nut Zippers, Dave Brylawski from Polvo, and Jim Wilbur from Superchunk.

Very little lives on from the show other than random clips housed on the Comboland YouTube page and a Barney’s Army fan site. These clips show a series that showcased local musicians, cartoons, interactive video games and a host in the form of a “strangely animated puppet.”

This clip shows Triangle mainstays Arrogance — fronted by Don Dixon — performing “Here Comes Santa Claus” from a holiday special that aired in 1982.

In addition to receiving national exposure from one of the music industry’s top publications, Rolling Stone has included two videos of the Annuals performing tracks from the band’s album Such Fun and split EP Wet Zoo at the West Side Highway in New York.

The performance was in the kitchen of Z-TV studios in Chapel Hill and aired on The Peoples Channel’s Z-TV program on June 28, 1998.

Humphreys released his solo album, Trunk Songs, earlier in 2008. The album features backing from Big Fat Gap and Gibb Droll.

But while his local devotees await that elusive announcement, Adams stopped by 3VOOR12 in the Netherlands on Nov. 6, 2008 and gave a special acoustic performance of tracks from the band’s recently released Cardinology.

The Guardian in the U.K. has also posted an off-beat interview with Adams in which he delves into what morning glory’s story is and the frequency according to Kenneth.

The band performed the first single, “Fix It,” from its recently released Cardinology, as well as recorded “Cobwebs” for a Web exclusive.

Before being joined by his current backing band, Adams experienced modest success as a solo musician and with the Raleigh-based alt-country outfit Whiskeytown. While living in the Triangle, Adams also performed with a handful of bands that never quite saw the success of Whiskeytown; including Lazy Stars and the Patty Duke Syndrome.
