Jason Arthurs-directed music video for "Sheriff"

Videography mastermind Jason Arthurs took on the task of creating a music video for local hip-hop band Inflowential’s rendition of the Bob Marley song “I Shot the Sheriff.”

Arthurs shot the video while Inflowential was recording the track at Flying Tiger Sound with BJ Burton for the Hear Here: The Triangle local music compilation.

The live studio footage is interlaced with news clips covering various crimes against everyday citizens by law enforcement. Included is the January 2009 murders of Oscar Grant by a Bay Area Rapid Transit police officer and Adolph Grimes by New Orleans police officers, and the 2006 murder of Sean Bell by New York Police Department officers.

“Sheriff” appears on the Hear Here compilation along with exclusive tracks from Lonnie Walker, The Love Language, The Rosebuds, Birds of Avalon and many more. Sales from the album benefit Raleigh’s Visual Art Exchange.

The second music video from Annuals‘ sophomore LP Such Fun was directed by stop-animation artist Erich Carrle of Sleeping Bacon Productions. Carrle’s animation style is very reminiscent of Will Vinton and Czech artist Jan Švankmajer.

“Wake” follows “Confessor” as the second single from Annuals’ 2008 album, and the second from the album to be animated. “Confessor” was directed by Daniel Auber, and animated by Norris Houk III, Tristan Bayer and Auber.

To date, four of the band’s music videos have been animated: “Dry Clothes” by Trunk Animation,” “Sore” by Teqtonic, “Confessor” and “Wake.”

Such Fun was released Oct. 7, 2008 through Canvasback Music.

Matt Hedt-directed video for the track "Well, Whatever"

By far one of my favorite songs yielded in 2009 so far is “Well, Whatever” from The Kingsbury Manx’s fifth full-length album, Ascenseur Ouvert!

The music video for the track was directed and shot by Matt Hedt on Super 8 film at the Carrboro Music Festival in Carrboro, and it captures the same sunshine pop simplicity that the song embodies.

Ascenseur Ouvert! was released through Manx keyboardist Paul Finn’s own Odessa Records on April 21. You can find the album at most indie retailers as well as through iTunes.
