It’s been 13 years since Neutral Milk Hotel released its landmark album In the Aeroplane Over the Sea, and it has only been since 2006 that frontman Jeff Mangum has begun performing publicly at least semi-frequently.
In all reality, 2011 marked Mangum’s return to the stage.
Although Hotel’s Julian Koster is no stranger to the Triangle, Mangum has yet to make a stop in central North Carolina. Though that changes with the enigmatic songwriter’s announcement of a 2012 U.S. tour.
Mangum will perform at UNC’s Memorial Hall Jan. 30. Tickets go on sale Friday, Nov. 11 at 12 p.m. for $31.
In the Aeroplane Over the Sea was release Feb. 10, 1998, through Durham’s own Merge Records.
