As Hurricane Irene prepared to roll over the east coast, sending wind and rain into the Triangle, Kings devotees packed into the Martin Street venue to celebrate its second one-year birthday.

A year ago, the beloved space reopened its doors after having been shuttered in its original location in 2007.

Now, after having played a integral role in the Hopscotch Music Festival’s inaugural year, as well as hosting numerous album release shows and dance parties, Kings once again holds a place as one of Raleigh’s premiere concert venues.

On Friday, Kings, with the help of DiggUp Tapes, opened its doors for the all-important one-year birthday bash.

Helping to kick-off its second year was Lonnie Walker‘s Brian Corum, Heads on Sticks, Deleted Scenes, ArnHao, Netherfriends, and DJs Shawn Kemp and Penname.

The show was sponsored by Nice Price Books & Records, New Raleigh and (appropriately) Pabst Blue Ribbon.

Photographer Tim Lytvinenko was there and shared with us his shots from the night. If you like what you see, you can find more of his work at http://newtim.com.
