The Foreign Exchange offers glimpse of live, acoustic DVD

In February we told you about an intimate acoustic concert we were invited to at Sound Pure in Durham.

We knew very little about what was ahead except that the invitation had come from The Foreign Exchange and Sound Pure was a relatively small recording studio on Washington Street. What we found inside was a gathering of 40 friends, family and fans poised to experience a private concert from the Durham-based R&B group.

The show was recorded live that night on Feb. 20, and until now, we were unsure what was in store for the footage.

“Listening to the playback of this live [Foreign Exchange] show,” Phonte Tweeted just hours after the performance. “Boy are y’all in for a treat. This was truly a blessing.”

That treat will find its way into fans’ hands June 28 with the release of Dear Friends: An Evening With The Foreign Exchange on double-disc CD/DVD. In addition to the full performance, the album includes two new studio tracks, “Steal Away” featuring Jeanne Jolly and “All The Kisses” featuring Amber and Paris Strother.

Check out the first performance clip from the DVD below. The song is called “Laughing At Your Plans,” and the track was originally featured on the group’s third full-length release, Authenticity.

The video is directed and edited by John Elliott Gray for Parallellogram. It features performances from Phonte (vocals), Nicolay (acoustic guitar), Jeanne Jolly (vocals), Sy Smith (vocals), Zo! (grand piano), Chris Boerner (acoustic guitar), Kush El-Amin (acoustic bass guitar) and Tim Scott Jr. (drums).

Can you see me in the wide crowd shots? Incredible night!
