On June 3 the City of Raleigh came together to support the victims of the April 16 tornadoes that ravaged central North Carolina.

In an attempt to raise funds for charities supporting those victims, the City organized the Rise Up Raleigh! benefit concert featuring 11 artists performing at the Raleigh Amphitheater, including headlining sets from The Connells, The Love Language and Marcy Playground.

Also taking the stage Friday were Marshetta Parker, Red Sonja Band, Aunt Martha, Motor Skills, Alissa Moreno, Young Cardinals, Kooley High and The Small Ponds.

Initially Mayor Charles Meeker said he had hoped to raise $100,000 through the benefit concert, however the show netted $21,329.27, with donations open through June 9.

A total of 138 Raleigh homes were destroyed in the storms and nearly 700 homes sustained major damage.

The charities that will receive the proceeds from the concert are the Salvation Army of Wake County, Centro International de Raleigh, the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle and Help hands Mission.
