The Avett Brothers will get larger-than-life treatment when their show at Red Rocks is simulcast on the HDTV at Charlotte Motor Speedway July 9.

Tickets are already on sale, and speedway promoters say they expect up to 10,000 people to sit in the amphitheatre-style seating in the infield.

The Avett’s longtime manager, Dolph Ramseur, said he came up with the idea while driving past the speedway recently.

“I knew they were putting up the screen, but I didn’t know how big it was,” he said. “I went to a lot of races over there. I grew up a fan of NASCAR. The idea just came to me: try to broadcast to the world’s greatest venue with the world’s greatest band.”

“This is going to be an unbelievable event,” Marcus Smith, general manager of Charlotte Motor Speedway, said in a statement. “This is something that would have never been possible without the world’s largest HDTV.

“But, now we’re going to simulcast a live sold-out show from one of the most famous concert venues in the world, featuring our home-town boys, the Avett Brothers, to their loyal fan following here in Charlotte. It’s going to be awesome!”

The HDTV at CMS is a staggering 80 feet by 200 feet. Organizers say the speedway will also supply concert-grade speakers for the event.

Tickets for the simulcast are just $10 until July 1. After that, tickets are $15 until July 8, and $20 at the door.
