After performing their two full-length albums in their entirety the first two nights of their four-night stand at Slim’s, The Love Language came back for Night 3 with a big surprise.

White Light/White Heat
The Gift
Lady Godiva’s Operation
Here She Comes Now
I Heard Her Call My Name
Sister Ray

Taking the stage in sunglasses, and frontman Stuart McLamb invoking Lou Reed in a leather jacket, the band took on the task of a track-by-track performance of The Velvet Underground’s 1968 album White Light/White Heat.

“There is no better way to let the neighbors know you don’t give a f*** than by playing ‘Sister Ray’ in the middle of a summer day with the front screen-door wide open,” McLamb explained in the show program.

While May isn’t quite summer, the front door of Slim’s was wide open, and The Love Language further let Raleigh know they were there to stay, and they certainly didn’t give a f***.

“We chose White Light/White Heat because it is no frills, unadulterated, rock-and-roll at its filthiest and purest,” McLamb explained.

Opening the show was Phil Cook & His Feet, in a performance precursor to his own album release show, which would follow the next night at Motorco in Durham.

As with nights past, The Love Language invited the opener to join them, while also welcoming Phil’s brother Brad Cook to read allowed from a book on stage.

Closing the show, the band once again presented an amalgam of tracks from their two albums, setting the stage for an energy-packed fourth night of this unbelievable residency.

Photographer Tim Lytvinenko was there Thursday night and shared with us his shots from the night. If you like what you see, you can follow his work at http://newtim.tumblr.com/ and http://twitter.com/newmediatim.
