No bias or anything, but NBC has some of the best music of late night television. Jimmy Fallon usually nails it, and Carson Daly always seems the feature a solid up-and-comer.
Last night was no different for Last Call with Carson Daly.
After hosting the first night of the Battle Rounds on his new show The Voice, Daly’s Last Call featured a spotlight on Chapel Hill’s own Ari Picker and his orchestral folk ensemble Lost in the Trees.
With his humble charm and wide grin, Picker explained to an audience probably not familiar with them exactly what Lost in the Trees is.
“Lost in the Trees is a combination of orchestral music and film-esque music, as well as singer-songwriter folk music,” Picker said. “There’s a little strong section, so three string players and several multi-instrumentalists that also play brass. Then I get to just sit there and sing the songs and play the guitar.”
Picker also described, with a hint of humor, what it was like to grow up in a small southern town playing classical instruments, “Being a boy flute player in a small country town in the south is not highly recommended.”
