Trekky Records, the little label responsible for some of the Triangle’s best locally produced albums, announced today that is will release the sophomore album from Phil Cook & His Feat.

The Megafaun vocalist and multi-instrumentalist will release Hungry Mother Blues May 10 in Trekky’s three-part vinyl package, which also includes the CD and digital download.

Trekky says it has long wanted to work with Phil and Megafaun, but since the band already had a home with Hometapes, the label never had the opportunity until now to work with the band.

“When Phil started recording and performing as Phil Cook & His Feat, both parties saw the opportunity to collaborate,” Trekky co-found Will Hackney explained. “Phil asked us to release his new record, Hungry Mother Blues and we replied with a breathless ‘Yes.’”

The follow-up to Phil’s 2009 self-titled album, the instrumental Hungry Mother Blues was recorded in a single day in the back room of his house during an ice storm.

“It’s a beautiful, completely instrumental album that showcases what Phil does best: playing unbelievably complex songs with so much soul that they sound effortless,” the label said.

The vinyl record will be pressed at 45RPM and features a record jacket with original art from Catherine Edgerton of Midtown Dickens.
