When I think of Triangle venues to host Primus, Raleigh’s Memorial Auditorium at the Progress Energy Center is pretty far down the list.
But that’s exactly where the platinum selling funk rock band will perform on May 31. Tickets are $29.50 and go on sale March 11 at 10 a.m.
The tour, which culminates with an appearance at Bonnaroo, is in anticipation of the band’s up-coming, as-yet untitled album. It is set for a late spring/early summer release on ATO/Prawn Song Records.
The album will be Primus’s first full-length album of brand new music since 1999′s Antipop.
The Grammy Award-nominated band, fronted by bassist extraordinaire Les Claypool, formed in Northern California in the late ’80s. Primus is perhaps best known for its songs “John the Fisherman,” “Jerry Was A Race Car Driver,” “My Name Is Mud” and “Wynona’s Big Brown Beaver.”
