Rapper Petey Pablo pleaded guilty Wednesday to possession of stolen firearms after he tried to board a plane at Raleigh-Durham International Airport in September with a gun.
“Finally made it back home. Wanna just lay in my own bed and sleep,” Petey Pablo Tweeted Wednesday afternoon, although it is unclear if the Tweet was in response to his plea.
A spokeswoman for RDU said Petey Pablo, whose real name is Moses Barrett, was arrested at 6 a.m. on Sept. 11, 2010 by an Transportation Security Administration officer who said they found a stolen 9mm handgun in his carry-on luggage as it passed through an X-ray machine.
At the time, he told his business partner, Vivienne Leigh, that he had someone else’s luggage when he arrived at the airport.
An investigation into the incident by the FBI, ATF, RDU Police and TSA later revealed that Petey Pablo, 37 of Knightdale, was in possession of his own bag, which contained the handgun.
The Wake County jail said Petey Pablo was released the same morning of his arrest after posting a $50,000 bond. He was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of stolen goods and carrying a concealed weapon.
After his release, Petey Pablo boarded another plane at RDU around noon and was flying to Los Angeles for the MTV Video Music Awards on Sept. 12.
Sentencing for the rapper is set for June; he faces a maximum of up to 10 years in prison.
