It’s no secret we love Record Store Day. The most obvious reasons are our loves of music and vinyl, so the celebration of the two is almost as exciting as Santa Claus.
That being said, Merge has a solid history of exclusive releases for Record Store Day — one of our favorites was the Let’s Wrestle/The Love Language split 7-inch released in 2010.
This year, the Durham-based label will issue three 12-inch and two 7-inch exclusives.
Caribou‘s previously digital-only Swim remix album will see a release as a double A side 12-inch, limited to only 1,000 copies. Also, Wild Flag, one of Merge’s more recent signees, will release a 7-inch produced by Spoon’s Britt Daniel and featuring the tracks “Future Crimes” and “Glass Tambourine.”
On the local side, Superchunk will release two exclusives and Polvo will reissue an EP.
The first is a reissue of Superchunk’s 1995 album Here’s Where the Strings Come, remastered by Jason Ward at Chicago Mastering Company from the original half-inch reels.
Superchunk will also release a split 7-inch with Coliseum featuring covers of the Misfits’ “Horror Business” and “Bullet.” The release is limited to 1,500 copies.
And Polvo’s 1994 EP Celebrate the New Dark Age will see a re-issue on limited-edition 180-gram vinyl. A limited number of copies have been autographed by the original 1994 Polvo line-up.
Record Store Day is April 16, 2011.
