So they signed with a major label. Recorded a hit record with famed producer Rick Rubin. Sold out countless shows. But after a decade of performing together, Concord-based The Avett Brothers can finally say they made it!

Wednesday the Los Angeles Times broke the story and this morning the Avetts confirmed that they will perform this Sunday at the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards alongside English folk rock band Mumford & Sons and the legendary Bob Dylan.

Speaking to the L.A. Times, Grammy Executive Producer Ken Ehrlich said the event’s organizers are looking to appeal to a broader audience than in the past with performances from Eminem with Dr. Dre, Arcade Fire, Muse, Lady Gaga, Miranda Lambert and of course the Avetts-Dylan-Mumford collaboration.

Meanwhile, Yolanda Adams, Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Hudson, Martina McBride and Florence Welch will pay tribute to the career of Aretha Franklin, who underwent surgery in December.

During the Dylan set, Mumford & Sons will perform their song “The Cave,” followed by the Avett Brothers with their song “Head Full of Doubt, Road Full of Promise.”

As Ehrlich was quick to point out, neither the Avetts nor Mumford & Sons would be around had it not been for Dylan.

“I don’t think either of these bands would be on a stage if it wasn’t for the music of Bob Dylan,” Ehrlich told the L.A. Times. “I think for the harmonies alone it should be something special. You don’t know what you’ve got — what the blend is — until you see it, but I think it could be fantastic.”

The Grammys will take place in Los Angeles at Staples Center on Sunday, Feb. 13.

The Avett Brothers have been hard at work on the follow-up to 2009′s I and Love and You in Asheville with Rick Rubin.
