Moving Island, a Raleigh-based non-profit, is gearing up for a launch in March, and to “Help Get Moving Island Afloat,” the organization’s founders will host a two-day benefit concert at their Downtown Raleigh location.

The concerts were just announced and the dates are approaching quickly. Beginning at 7 p.m. on Jan. 28, Moving Island will host 13 bands and “a selection of fine DJs” at 804 West Street in Raleigh. The 2011 Buoyancy Benefit continues at noon on Saturday, Jan. 29.

While it’s unclear as to who is performing and when, the lineup includes Lonnie Walker, Schooner, Naps, Motor Skills, Veelee, Old Bricks, Organos, Gray Young, The Big Picture, Heads on Sticks, Kid Future, Wowser Bowser and Young Volcanoes. The DJs will be handpicked by Denmark Records.

Tickets for the event are $8 in advance for each day or $15 for both days. They can also picked up the day of the event for $10. Tickets will be available at Schoolkids Records, CD Alley and Bull City Records, as well as through Brown Paper Tickets.

Moving Island provides community education “focused on emerging arts, empowering technology and the business of living.” Although not yet officially a non-profit, the organization’s recognition as a tax-exempt non-profit is pending. The organization’s four founding members are Schooner’s Maria Albani, The Rosebuds’ Kelly Crisp, Adam Crane and Motor Skills’ Chris Riddle.
