The Queen of Rockabilly, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Wanda Jackson, will celebrate the release of her Jack White-produced full-length at Local 506 in Chapel Hill.
The Party Ain’t Over officially drops through White’s Third Man Records on Jan. 25, though Jackson will bring it to the Triangle Feb. 26. Tickets for the show are available for $20.
White previously worked with Jackson on a 7-inch featuring covers of Amy Winehouse’s “You Know I’m No Good” on the A-side and Johnny Kidd & The Pirates’ “Shakin’ All Over” on the flip. The album’s release coupled with her 2009 induction into the Rock and Rock Hall of Fame has introduced her brand of rockabilly to a whole new generation of music lovers.
“I feel like I’m in my heyday now, rather than before,” Jackson explained. “It’s a whole new generation — they’re all discovering this simple rockabilly music and falling in love with it.”
The Party Ain’t Over was recorded at White’s studio in Nashville, where he brought together a band that included himself, Jack Lawrence (Raconteurs), Carl Broemel (My Morning Jacket), Patrick Keeler (Raconteurs), Ashley Monroe, Jackson Smith and Karen Elson. The album’s 11 tracks date in origin from the early 1900s to 2007.
In ’09, White lent his producing hand to Chapel Hill’s own Dex Romweber. Third Man Records released the 45 rpm single June 9 with the track “The Wind Did Move” on the A-side and “Last Kind Word Blues” on the flip.
UPDATE: This show has been rescheduled for April 12.
