As we mentioned several months ago, Merge Records seems to have swept up all of John Darnielle’s projects, including The Extra Lens and The Mountain Goats.
While The Extra Lens released Undercard in October, details have been sparse on the new Mountain Goats LP.
Well that shroud of secrecy has been lifted and it looks as if the Goats will release All Eternals Deck March 29 through the Durham0based label.
Darnielle explains of the album, “If you have ever watched say a ’70s occult-scare movie where one of the scenes involves a few people visiting a storefront fortune teller, getting their cards read, and then trying to feel super-hopeful about their predicted outcome when what they’re visibly actually feeling is dread, then you have a pretty decent idea of what the album is all about.”
Studio time for the album was split between four different studios: North Carolina’s Fidelitorium with John Congleton, Q Division in Boston with Brandon Eggleston, Brooklyn’s Mission Sound with Scott Solter, and Mana Recording Studios in Florida with Erik Rutan.
All Eternals Deck is the follow-up to 2009′s The Life of the World to Come, which saw a release through 4AD.
Darnielle has a solo show coming up at Kings on Dec. 17 for the Brome for the Holidays Christmas celebration hosted by Grayson Currin and Brad Cook.
