Grammy Award winning banjo picker Béla Fleck is gearing up to release a new album with the Flecktones in 2011, and in support, the band’s original lineup will hit the road for a tour that will bring them through the Triangle in June.
With the album due out in May, Béla Fleck and the Flecktones will perform at the North Carolina Museum of Art on June 4, 2011.
The performance will presumably be part of the museum’s annual summer concert series. In which case, tickets will be available through the museum box office.
The Flecktones’ new album is the band’s first with its original lineup — featuring Fleck, Victor Wooten, Future Man and Howard Levy — since 1991. The band says its release will be followed by its “first heavy touring in many years.”
Fleck scored two Grammy wins in 2010, one for “Best Pop Instrumental Performance” and another for “Best Contemporary World Music Album.”
