Many may not know, but in addition to being a comedic legend, Steve Martin is also a Grammy Award winning banjo player, having even established The Steve Martin Prize for Excellence in Banjo and Bluegrass.
While Martin recently performed at Merlefest in May, he’ll now head to the always impressive Durham Performing Arts Center on May 21, 2011.
“There is no one in modern memory with the portfolio of Steve Martin, and he’s a perfect example of DPAC’s mission — to bring unique, one-of-a-kind live entertainment events to Triangle audiences,” DPAC General Manager Bob Klaus said. “He’s well known as an actor, comedian, author, playwright, producer, art collector, and musician — a true Jack of all Trades in the entertainment world.”
Martin will join North Carolina’s own The Steep Canyon Rangers, whose latest record, Deep In The Shade, stayed on the Billboard Bluegrass Top Ten for 18 weeks. The Rangers were previously joined by Martin for a handful of special engagements, including Later Night with David Letterman, Austin City Limits and A Prairie Home Companion.
Tickets for the May 21 performance start at $42 and go on sale Dec. 10 at 10 a.m.
Martin will release his latest album, Rare Bird Alert, in March through Rounder Records.
