This seemed to fly under the radar, at least for me anyway. I knew Double Negative‘s practice space had been pillaged in December, but I had no clue the band flew through the re-recording of its long-awaited sophomore album after the incident.
For a little background info, someone broke into several band practice spaces around December 2009 and January 2010. Among the bands burglarized was Double Negative, who had a 16-track portable Korg stolen that contained their then almost-complete sophomore LP on it.
On that note, after two aborted recording sessions and three years since their debut full-length, Double Negative has finally released its new album, Daydreamnation, through Sorry State Records.
“Three years and two aborted recording sessions later, North Carolina’s almighty Double Negative finally deliver the follow-up to their legendary debut,” a press release explains. “While that record obliterated listeners with its sharp, precise hardcore attack, Daydreamnation finds Double Negative incorporating the wide variety of influences one would expect from four guys who have all been playing in bands for 25+ years.”
“Endless Disappointment” by Double Negative
The album was released July 27 and was pressed on pink vinyl. Unfortunately, that pressing was limited to 200 and those hypothetically flew off the shelves. Some good news though, the label still has plenty of copies of the LP on 12-inch black vinyl, which includes an MP3 download code of the entire album.
As for when you can catch them around the Triangle, in September the band will be heading to Europe for a handful of dates, but first you can catch them at the Berkeley Cafe on Sept. 10 with Fucked Up, Harvey Milk and Whatever Brains for the Hopscotch Music Festival.
