Millions of indie hearts sank when they saw that the classic (’93-’96) Guided By Voices lineup would reunite for the Matador Records 21st birthday bash in Vegas.

Would the three-day event be the only opportunity to catch the lineup that brought us the indie rock bangers Bee Thousand and Alien Lanes?

Not so, says the band. In fact, Robert Pollard et al. have announced 15 dates in addition to the Oct. 3 performance at the Palms Hotel in Sin City. Nestled amongst those dates is an Oct. 22, performance at Cat’s Cradle in Carrboro.

Rejoice!

Tickets for the once-in-a-lifetime show go on sale July 16, at 10 a.m.

Also on the books for this reunion is an appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on Nov. 4. I wonder if this means Bob will make an appearance on the next The Roots record …

On a related note, recent local anti-label upstart No More Fake Labels announced it is working on a Guided By Voices tribute album, which is set to feature Western Civ among “up-coming indies as well as some indie legends.” Hopefully more information on that is coming soon.
