Heard of TRKfest? If not, it’s time to start paying attention. TRKfest is an annual one-day music festival and fundraiser hosted by local label Trekky Records at Piedmont Biofuels in Pittsboro.
“The event began as a one-off fundraiser for the Trekky Records Collective in 2008, but has transformed into an annual event, returning each year by popular demand,” label co-founder and festival curator Will Hackney explained.
No advance tickets are sold for the event, though there is a suggested $10 donation for admission. Considering the talent slated for this year’s TRKfest, 10 bucks is a steal.
This year’s festival will be held June 26 and features headlining performances from Lost in the Trees and Megafaun. Also scheduled to perform are Hammer No More The Fingers, Embarrassing Fruits, Midtown Dickens, Mount Moriah, Veelee, Butterflies, Ryan Gustafson, Ezekiel Graves, Vibrant Green and Charlotte-based Yardwork.

Of course, TRKfest isn’t just about the music, it’s a celebration of all things local.
“With the help of Piedmont Biofuels and The Abundance Foundation, we will attempt to minimize the ecological impact of the festival, reducing waste and emphasizing local and sustainable foods and drinks,” Hackney said.
Just a sampling from Trekky indicates that attendees can expect, “local art, crafts and clothing for sale; local food and drinks for sale; pants-off dance-off; coffee sack race; cool kids yoga session; musical chairs cake walk; make your own tie-dye TRKfest shirt; volleyball; sprinklers and water things; tour of Piedmont Biofuels; free haircuts; shadow puppets; and bliss tent.”

Make your own tie dye?! Sounds like a lot of fun. We’d love to do more of this work at shows like this. Really fun for the younger generations and nostalgic for the older ones.
