Although the group has remained mostly inactive since 2006, looking over the members who made up N.C. State’s Hip Hop Organization (H2O) is like reading a “who’s who” of the Triangle’s promising emcees and producers — past and present.

It hearkens to a time when North Carolina hip-hop seemed unstoppable and poised to over throw the crunk that polluted mainstream radio. At least that’s what those of us who rabidly followed every release and rumor believed and even preached.
On a nearly weekly basis, Justus League turned out a new LP or mixtape adorned by 9th Wonder’s soulful beats, and fresh emcees and producers were peeking their heads out from behind the walls of the universities to check out the hype.
That movement soon slowed to halt, leaving behind remnants of the Justus League as well as a group of H20 alumni who collaborated to form one of North Carolina’s most critically acclaimed hip-hop crews since Little Brother.
For nearly four years, Kooley High has kicked around the Triangle, packing venues and releasing consistently solid mixtapes. But come June, four of the six core members of the hip-hop crew will make their ways to the big city to try their mics in New York and spread the word of Kooley to our northern brethren.
That doesn’t mean the Kooley crew is calling in quits, however. In fact, before Tab-One, Charlie Smarts, Foolery and Ill Digitz hit the road, the group is planning to finally release its debut full-length, Eastern Standard Time, which is already receiving positive buzz from HoodHype, 2dopeboyz and okayplayer.
As for The Sinopsis and Rapsody, they will stay behind, with Rapsody planning to release her own solo album later this year through 9th Wonder’s Jamla record label.
And while they may have the Big Apple in their sites, Charlie Smarts says fans can expect Kooley High to return to the Old North State around December.
