Probably my favorite music scene after the Triangle is Baltimore. Beach House, Dan Deacon, Future Islands, Celebration, Wye Oak, Double Dagger, Ponytail … it really doesn’t get much better.
So since I first heard of Friends Records, a project launched by Bmore Musically Informed founder Brett Yale, I’ve been anxiously waiting to hear the label’s debut offerings from the Charm City, including a split 7″ featuring Future Islands and Lonnie Walker.
While the Future Islands/Lonnie Walker split isn’t expected until November, Friends is offering a compilation featuring a live cut of “Virgo Distracts” from Future Islands’ In The Fall EP as well as Lonnie Walker’s “Feels Like Right” from last year’s Hear Here: The Triangle compilation.
“Virgo Distracts” (Live at DubLab) by Future Islands
“Feels Like Right” by Lonnie Walker
The Friends and Friends of Friends comp is being offered as a free download from the Friends Records Bandcamp page and will be available for purchase in May on limited edition cassette (you read that correctly).
Future Islands will be joined by Lonnie Walker, Whatever Brains and Lower Dens May 4 at The Berkeley Cafe in Downtown Raleigh to celebrate the release of the band’s sophomore full-length, In Evening Air.
