My first introduction to Luego came — like many local bands — from a handbill. I didn’t really think much of it — just made a note to check the band out on MySpace the next time I was around a computer.
That’s when I was hit with the track “Held Up,” from Luego’s debut full-length Taped-Together Stories. There was a seasoned charm to the song, as well as all of the tracks on the album. It was immediately obvious that frontman Patrick Phelan possessed a pop sensibility rivaling Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy — which especially shines through on the songs “Held Up,” “Attaboy” and “When I Lie.”

Adding to this allure was seeing the names Peter Holsapple (The dBs, R.E.M., Continental Drifters), Nick Jaeger (Roman Candle, Max Indian) and Jeff Crawford (Max Indian, Roman Candle, SpencerAcuff) in the band’s lineup.
Phelan is a voice to be heard, and the Triangle music community knows it.
“I feel like we represent something different coming out of the Triangle, but still remain a part of the musical renaissance going on,” Phelan explained.
Lucky for Music.MyNC, it was soon after my discovery of the band when Phelan sent us an e-mail about performing on Sessions at Studio B. Our answer? An enthusiastic “YES!”
Taped-Together Stories was independently released Oct. 17. Phelan followed its released with a solo tour in Belgium and Holland to promote the album’s European release.

I would also like my band to perform at Studio B.
My band is a family band – myself, my husband and our four children. We are all on stage together performing high rhythm afrobeats, some in foreign languages.
