There is something strangely vintage about Americans in France. Immediately, the chaotic sounds of the Sex Pistols are called upon.
The band cuts through the air with classic punk cynicism. But on the band’s debut full-length Pretzelvania, Americans in France quickly throws its listeners for a loop with the airy, lovelorn cut “Liking You.”
Serving as both the band’s debut, as well as Carrboro-based label Odessa Records‘ first release, Pretzelvania has earned the band heaps of critical buzz, a semi-national tour, a spot on the Hear Here: The Triangle compilation and eager anticipation for their sophomore release.
Up next for Americans in France is just that: the next release.
“I feel like we’re more connected now, and we play better now,” drummer Casey Cook explained to Independent Weekly in June 2009. “So there’s things that you’re like, ‘Oh, I wish I did that the way I do it now,’ but I think it’s really sweet to just capture that time in the very beginning. If you don’t catch it then, you never have a chance to.”
The band is hoping to hit the studio soon to record its next full-length, but says it may release a handful of 7″s in the meantime.
