Maria Albani’s (Pleasant, Un Deux Trois, Schooner) latest project, Organos, will make its live debut on Sept. 26 at The ArtsCenter in Carrboro for the Liminal Festival.
While Organos began as a solo recording project for Albani, her live band will feature John Harrison (North Elementary), Reid Johnson (Schooner), Theresa Stone-Phillips, Wes Phillips and Nathan Oliver White (Nathan Oliver).
“I really never thought too much about Organos being live [because] I was afraid that the songs could wind up sounding too electronicy if I did it myself,” Albani said.
However, after working though her songs with a full band, the live aspect of Organos began to take shape.
“It was an invigorating experience for me to hear the songs being played live,” Albani explained of rehearsing with a band. “I am more excited now than nervous about the whole ‘performing live’ aspect of this.”
Organos live debut will be at the Liminal Festival, which is curated by Wendy Spitzer of Felix Obelix. The festival will be held Sept. 24 through 26 at various venues throughout Chapel Hill and Carrboro, including the final show at The ArtsCenter.
According to the Liminal Festival Web site, “The Liminal Festival’s goals are twofold: 1) to bring together musicians who are bridging genres, working to integrate genres or otherwise bend the rules of traditional musical genre, for performances to highlight the possibilities of this cross-genre experimentation and 2) to expose listeners, especially underserved or otherwise nontraditional audiences, to these performances.”
Other bands set to perform at the ArtsCenter for Liminal Fest are Austin’s Bee vs. Moth, Billy Sugarfix, Philly’s Make a Rising, Felix Obelix and Wes Phillips.
Albani plans to release Organos’ debut EP — The Limbs EP — through Pox World Empire later in the fall. She also has another live show planned for Nov. 4 at Nightlight with Nana Grizol.
