"Royal Swine" by Laird Dixon.
You’ve heard their music, now get ready to see their art.
Local musicians Laird Dixon of Shark Quest, Lincoln Hancock of Strange, Drew Robertson of Phon, Maria Albani of Organos and Schooner, John Kurtz of Bull City, Mas Sato of The Sames, and John Harrison of North Elementary will present their unique creative visions at Wootini in Carrboro on Oct. 9 as part of Minus Sound Research 4.
The art exhibition is in its fourth year and in the past has featured artwork from Laura Ballance (Superchunk), Ron Liberti (Pipe), Beth Tacular (Bowerbirds), Reid Johnson (Schooner), Bill Taylor (The Kingsbury Manx), Nathan White (Nathan Oliver), Catherine Edgerton (Midtown Dickens) and Melissa Swingle (The Moaners).
MSR4 is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and will include food, drinks and, of course, music.
Here’s a run down of what to expect at the exhibit:
Dixon will present “works primarily in sculpture by creating molds that inevitably break, evoking at least one man to tears.”
Hancock’s “mixed-media paintings interrogate color — mystical hues pulse both from the grace of nature and the artifice of advertising and plastic graphic language.”
Robertson “uses mixed media to create work that focuses on sound and how we interact with it.”
Albani has composed “portraits [and] scenes of sprightly beings through the use of pastel chalks and acrylic paints.”
Kurtz “documents the lives of animals in ceramic and mixed media.”
Sato “fuses traditional Japanese aesthetics with modern fabrication/production techniques to create simple and sturdy design objects.”
Harrison “uses acrylics and spray paints in tandem with silk screening and stencils to create these unique compositions.”
