Yo La Tengo is one of the most influential bands in indie rock with 15 albums and 25 years under their belts. And 25 years seems like a good time to release a 12th full-length and launch an extensive North American tour.
After releasing Popular Songs on Sept. 8, the band will jump into the tour beginning in Vermont and finish up in Seattle on Oct. 22 before heading overseas. The dates include a stop at Carolina Theatre in Durham on Sept. 18 with tickets going on sale July 24 for $20 or $23.
“Periodically Double Or Triple” by Yo La Tengo
“The new Yo La Tengo … album Popular Songs could be the bravest musical statement to date in a career full of ‘em,” Matador Records explains of the album. “Recorded in Hoboken and Nashville in early 2009 with longtime associate Roger Mountenot, Popular Songs finds the trio of Georgia Hubley, Ira Kaplan and James McNew at the height of their creative powers, fashioning an epic work that’s cooly confident as it is wildly adventurous.”
Popular Songs is the band’s seventh album to be released by Matador Records. It is the first LP since 2006′s I Am Not Afraid of You and I Will Beat Your A** other than an album released earlier this year under a name that’s not quite suitable for print.
