A memorial service for Michael Jackson that was planned for Friday at the Time Warner Cable Music Pavilion at Walnut Creek in Raleigh has been canceled.
Event organizer Bruce Lightner sent out an alert announcing the cancellation Wednesday afternoon.
“Due to circumstances beyond our control the memorial service for the late Michael Jackson … has been canceled,” Lightner said.
Lightner cites complications with the planned public memorial services on Friday at Neverland Ranch as the reason for the cancellation.
“Local coordinators were notified that the planned public memorial service … had been postponed due to difficulties with traffic overloads and other technical considerations.”
The service at Walnut Creek was to feature testimonials from local fans, tributes from area groups and a simulcast from Los Angeles of Jackson’s viewing and funeral.
A performance from the Martin Luther King All-Children’s Choir and prayers by area clergy were also planned for the event.
Peter O’Donnell, the amphitheatre’s general manager, said that the memorial service was in the works, but nothing was finalized before Lightner’s announcement Wednesday morning.
