Powerman 5000 Coming To Volume 11 Tavern

Powerman 5000 has never matched the success they saw with 1999’s Tonight the Stars Revolt!, and frankly I don’t think they ever will. It seems like the stars aligned for that album as it came at just the right time in popular music; it was fun, offbeat and strayed from the rap metal that was flooding television and radio airwaves.

But the quirky, sci-fi themes got old quick, and it was very obvious that the formula could not be repeated from album to album — as illustrated by 2001’s Anyone for Doomsday?, which never saw a proper release until a 2009 iTunes release. Frontman Spider One pulled the album two weeks before its release due to similarities to previous efforts.

Regardless, Spider One has continued to tour and release albums with a revolving lineup of band members. The band’s most recent release was 2006’s Destroy What You Enjoy, and Powerman 5000 plans to release its sixth studio album sometime this summer.

In support of the yet-to-be-named album, the band is hitting the road and will make a stop in the Triangle with a performance at Volume 11 Tavern in Raleigh on Nov. 7.
