One of the local trailblazers of indie rock will release its first album in 12 years.

After having reformed in 2008 due to an invitation from Explosions in the Sky to perform at All Tomorrow’s Parties in Barcelona, Polvo entered the studio at Echo Mountain in Asheville in March 2009 with Brian Paulson, and what resulted was the band’s first album since ’97’s Shapes. With additional recording in Carrboro in May 2009, Polvo will release In Prism on Sept. 8 through Merge Records.

The Merge release will be somewhat of a homecoming for Polvo as the band released its ‘92 LP Cor-Crane Secret, ’93’s Today’s Active Lifestyles and the EPs Celebrate the New Dark Age and The Eclipse through the Durham-based label. The band later switched to Touch and Go to release two full-lengths before disbanding in ‘97 while touring in support of Shapes.

In support of the album, Polvo will hit the road beginning June 26 in Charlotte and will hit the Triangle at the XX Merge music festival July 22 through 26.
