On June 1, I woke up to the terrible news that Bombadil had canceled its planned tour behind the band highly anticipated sophomore LP Tarpits and Canyonlands — including its album release party at Cat’s Cradle.
However, Bryan Rahija promised that the band was still planning to celebrate the release; the celebration would just have to to void of any performance from Bombadil due to the condition of Daniel Michalak’s hands.
It now looks like those plans have come to fruition as the band is planning to host a listening party at Golden Belt in Durham on July 11 at 7 p.m..
“Though we will be unable to perform as a band, this show will have things we always wanted to feature at a concert but for some reason were unable,” the band writes.
The event will feature artwork from the album on display at the gallery, as well as performances from The Tender Fruit and Luego.
“We’ve talked before about how the album is a special collaboration with the Idiots’ Books press (the record is a part of their monthly book series, with the packaging doubling as a fable inspired by the songs),” the band writes. “This show will feature the fruits of that collaboration on display: one illustration to match every song on the record, plus artwork found elsewhere in the packaging as part of the fable that interprets the album as a whole.”
“Honeymoon” by Bombadil
After the performances from The Tender Fruit and Luego, Bombadil will play Tarpits and Canyonlands in its entirety.
Admission to the album release extravaganza is free, and attendees can look forward to free food from “local eateries” as well as “raffles featuring unique band memorabilia as prizes.”
