Megafaun’s sophomore LP is sure to be phenomenal. The band’s debut album, Bury the Square, was a gorgeous release, so why should we expect any less on Gather, Form & Fly?
The album is due in stores through Hometapes on July 21, and the band describes it as, “an ode to death, love, musical history (from blues to musique-concréte), community, tradition and experimentation. In all, it’s an ode to the listener.”
In addition to this news, Megafaun unleashed a new track, “The Fade,” from the album, which you can check out at the band’s Web site, MySpace page or below.
“The Fade” by Megafaun
Gather, Form & Fly “was self-recorded in three bedrooms, a kitchen, a yoga studio, a living room, a basement, and in a forbidden university piano studio that they had to break into to find an in-tune piano. In act of further embracing the new, Megafaun brought in Chris Stamey … to help mix and guide [the album], adding another dimension to the superb result.”
The album will be released as a double vinyl LP with an MP3 download code and CD — similar to the manner by which Lost in the Trees released All Alone In An Empty House.
As we mentioned earlier in the week, Megafaun will hit the road with Bowerbirds beginning July 6 in Washington, D.C. While there are no dates planned for that tour in the Triangle, you can catch Megafaun June 13 at TRKfest 2009 and June 17 at Duke Gardens.
