It looks like the successful Bull Durham Blues Festival will return to its roots when the festival makes its way to the Durham Athletic Park on Sept. 12.
“We are extremely excited to be back at the DAP with all of the newly enhanced features that will give our festival an uplift and bringing it back home to the atmosphere we like best,” Dianne Pledger, executive producer and president of St. Joseph’s Historic Foundation, said. “We are working closely with the City of Durham and Minor League Baseball to work out of the details related to the use of the DAP to produce the best festival we possibly can.”
This year’s festival will be a two-day event, with the opening night being hosted Sept. 11 at the St. Joseph’s Performance Hall at Hayti Heritage Center. The opening night will include performance from Grammy nominated and WC Handy/Blues Music Award Winner Eric Bibb, as well as local musicians Jamsé Kelly and Jon Shain Trio.
The festival will continue Saturday with a 12-hour event featuring food, workshops, arts and crafts, and live music from Grammy nominated and WC Handy/Blues Music Award winner Elvin Bishop and Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue.
“The Foundation is hoping that our blues audience who has supported us for these many years will like the day long festival atmosphere and great music we will provide for 12 hours on Saturday, Sept. 12,” Pledger said.
The lineup will also include performances from Zac Harmon, Cool John Ferguson, The Lee Boys, Homemade Jamz Blues Band, Delta Moon, Roy Roberts, and Valentino and the Piedmont Sheiks.
Tickets will go on sale July 1 with the presale running from June 22 through 26. Only 100 presale tickets will be made available to Sept. 11’s events for $30 and 500 tickets available for Sept. 12’s event at $35 a piece.
