Durham-based Merge Records has revealed some details for its five-day 20th anniversary live music festival, XX Merge. As expected the lineup so far is nothing but stellar.
XX Merge — which is slated to melt faces in the sweltering heat of July 22 through 26 — will feature night-side performances from past and present Merge artists at Cat’s Cradle in Carrboro and UNC’s Memorial Hall.
The festival will include more than 25 artists, with the initial lineup featuring Superchunk, Spoon, Conor Oberst, Spent, M. Ward, The Rosebuds, Destroyer, Guv’ner, Polvo, Pipe and The Broken West. A representative at Merge said we can expect many more bands to be announced as well as possibly some daytime shows.
Festival goers can expect to attend four night shows at Cat’s Cradle with the fifth show being held at Memorial Hall.
Five-day passes will go on sale Wednesday, April 8 at 10 a.m. for $150. The pass will get you in to all XX Merge festivities and will be available through the Cat’s Cradle and Merge Records Web sites. The label will also offer a limited number of tickets for individual shows at a later date.
For those who are coming in from out of town, Merge has reserved a block of rooms at The Holiday Inn in Chapel Hill. Special rates are available at $85 per night when booked using the code “MRA.”
