Some of Rock and Roll’s legendary artists will once again take the stage at the Koka Booth Amphitheater.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame + Museum has announced it is sponsoring the second annual benefit concert in Cary, on Sunday, Sept. 6.
Last year’s highlights included Jack Bruce of Cream along with members of Jefferson Airplane, Styx, Traffic, Deep Purple, Grand Funk Railroad, Blue Oyster Cult, the Grateful Dead and Yes.
“The event was a huge success for the Town of Cary,” Cary Mayor Harold Weinbrecht said in a release.
“We are so proud to be able to bring this level of entertainment back to the area and I look forward to rolling out the welcome mat for this year’s artists, Rock Hall staff and our out-of-town guests.”
Unlike last year, organizers hope to have the lineup announced early; the first time around, act announcements trickled out over several months leading up to the concert.
Another change will be the beneficiary of the concert’s fundraising. This year, the money will have more of a local impact, since it will benefit the Cary Community Foundation.
The inaugural concert raised money for the Jon Entwistle Foundation, which supports music education in honor of the late bass player from The Who.
“We couldn’t have been more pleased with last year’s show and the support we received from the Town of Cary, the Greater Raleigh Convention & Visitors Bureau, our various corporate and media partners and ‘60s and ‘70s classic rock fans,” said Concert Chairman Rick French in a release. “This year we plan to give music fans a little bit of everything by paying homage to Rock and Roll’s R&B roots while also providing fans a healthy dose of classic rock and some other pleasant surprises.”
Tickets will be available through Ticketmaster and the Koka Booth Amphitheater box office.
