Well this is an interesting find. Triangle Music uncovered a little gem of a show on April 22 — otherwise know as Duke University’s Last Day of Classes.
The all-day event will feature performances from Nate Fowler of Stella by Starlight, The Soulless Dogs, The Huguenots and the biggest surprises: Girl Talk, Gym Class Heroes and Chapel Hill’s own Ben Folds.
“A lot of thought went into the artists this year, and extensive information was gathered on the student’s opinions through a survey that got more than 1000 responses,” a release from the LDOC Committee says. “The first thing our committee considered was what the students wanted, and we made sure to check on the availability and price of the most popular choices … We feel that we have been able to achieve a fantastic compromise between reasonable pricing and what the students want, and we hope that there is something in this show that will appeal to everyone.”
Since the event coincides with Earth Day, the committee has planned LDOC around the theme of sustainability.
“We are teaming with the Duke Sustainability Office and working with outside organizations in the Durham community to try to be more aware of the carbon footprint of our event and to make an effort to recycle and not be as wasteful.”
Last year, Duke’s LDOC featured a performance from The Roots. So it’s safe to say that this little festival is quickly becoming the show to watch each year.
Check out the LDOC Web site for the full schedule and list of performers.
