Entitled Leaves in the Gutter, the album will be the band’s first widely released CD since 2001’s Here’s To Shutting Up. In addition to featuring the previously released track “Misfits & Mistakes,” there will be four new recordings.
“Misfits & Mistakes” by Superchunk
Superchunk’s Mac McCaughan and Laura Balance originally founded Merge in 1989 as a vehicle for Superchunk to release its many singles. This eventually grew into a means for McCaughan to release Portastatic albums and the recordings of fellow Triangle artist Polvo.
To celebrate its 20th anniversary, the label has issued a subscription-only boxset and will host a five-day music festival from July 22 through 26. Artists and venues for XX Merge have not been announced, however a representative from Merge confirmed that it will be held throughout the Triangle.
On Jan. 14, Superchunk released The Clambakes Vol. 4 — Sur La Bouche — Live in Montreal 1993. The live album captures the band while on tour in support of the LP On the Mouth and was recorded by former Arcade Fire drummer Howard Bilerman at the Backstreet club in Montreal in March 1993. The recording was made available exclusively as a digital download through the Merge Records online store and was the first release issued to Score! subscribers.
