A representative from the Durham Performing Arts Center has confirmed that Eli “Paperboy” Reed & the True Loves is no longer opening Morrissey’s performance on March 11.

Apparently Moz nixed the idea of Eli “Paperboy” Reed opening for his U.S. tour after the former The Smiths frontman caught a performance from the Boston-based soulman in London.

“At least he came to the show,” Reed wrote on Boston message board Lemmingtrail. “I just wish they hadn’t confirmed beforehand.”

“It’s alright, now at least we can do all the other stuff we couldn’t do because of how long the tour was,” Reed wrote. “[We] just played for 1,300 people headlining in Madrid so at least I have that going for me. I really just wanted to play Carnegie Hall.”

Los Angeles quartet Red Cortez — or the group formerly known as The Weather Underground — will now be opening the up-coming dates with Moz; this includes his stop at DPAC. The band will release its new EP, Hands to the Wall, in early March.
