Double Negative drummer Brian Walsby posted an update on his long-awaited MANCHILD 4 as well as the follow-up that’s already in the works. Like MANCHILD 3, a Melvins album will be included with the book of comics, and Walsby says the the fifth edition of MANCHILD will include a live album from Richmond’s Honor Role.
In regard to how far along he is on the new book, Walsby says MANCHILD 5: Like Gold Down A Sewer is about three-quarters complete, but “that last fourth is crucial and I need more input.”
MANCHILD 4: Riding Them Coat Tails will include the live Melvins album Pick Your Battles. The album includes “Koolegged,” “Oven,” “Cranky Messiah,” “Raise A Paw,” “Ever Since My Accident,” “Green Honey,” “Claude” and “Your Blessened” recorded live at 924 Gilman Street in Berkeley, California on Feb. 4, 1989; as well as “Nude With Boots,” “Kicking Machine,” “Eye Flys,” “Rat Faced Granny,” “The Hawk,” “You’ve Never Been Right” and “Boris” recorded live in Boston on Aug. 9, 2008.
Fans can expect to pick up the book on April 7, Charles Cardello of MANCHILD publisher Bifocal Media says. Cardello also says that preorders for MANCHILD 4 should be up on Feb. 13 and a release party will be held on April 4 at Tir Na Nog in Raleigh.
Like previous release parties, admission will include a copy of the book as well as catered food. Cardello says Double Negative will perform and Walsby will use the event as an art show that will likely feature exclusive T-shirts for sale.
“The Kicking Machine” and “Oven” from Pick Your Battles can be previewed at the Bifocal Media MySpace page.
Double Negative was recently named by the N&O’s David Menconi as one of The Great Eight bands of 2009. You can still check out our feature with Menconi as he discusses the bands on this year’s list. Walsby has drummed with bands such as POLVO, Snake Nation, Scared Straight and The Patty Duke Syndrome, which was one of Ryan Adams’s pre-Whiskeytown projects.
