After being told by about a half dozen people, and almost as many local blogs, I guess this would be as good a time as any to report that Coldplay is coming to the Music Pavilion at Walnut Creek.
According to Coldplay and the venue’s Web sites the band will perform on Aug. 6 during its Viva La Vida Tour. Tickets for the performance go on sale Feb. 12 at 10 a.m. through Live Nation, the venue box office and all Live Nation outlets.
As the name of the tour indicates, Coldplay is touring in support of 2008’s Grammy-nominated album Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends. Kitty, Daisy & Lewis as well as Elbow are scheduled to open for the band at the Raleigh performance.
Coldplay is one of those bands that were “cool” to like when they first released Parachutes; but once “Yellow” began flooding radio playlists, it became cool to hate them. It was during this time when Paul Rudd’s character infamously belittled Seth Rogen for liking Coldplay during an exchange of insults in The 40-Year-Old Virgin. Ironically, it was that same summer when Coldplay once again became embarrassed by hipster music communities with the release of X&Y.
I have personally remained in the “pro-Coldplay” camp since the band’s debut, so I’ll be looking forward to the show.
