Raleigh Downtown Live has so far booked a string of pretty washed up artists; but the concert series may have redeemed itself just a little with its most recent addition.

Joan Jett & The Blackhearts will perform in Moore Square on July 11, 2009. The announcement marks the fourth headliner for the weekly concert series, and the first band with sustained relevance.

Just last week, Downtown Live announced that ’90s alternative rockers Filter would perform on June 13 and The Charlie Daniels Band would perform July 25. These came after the announcement that Candlebox would kick off the series with a show on May 30.

Joan Jett & The Blackhearts‘ last release was 2006′s Sinner, which yielded the singles “A.C.D.C,” “Change the World” and “Androgynous.” Jett is perhaps best known for the songs “I Love Rock N’ Roll,” “Bad Reputation,” “I Hate Myself for Loving You” and her cover of “Crimson and Clover.”

Downtown Live is a free outdoor concert series held in downtown Raleigh’s Moore Square at the corner of Blount and Martin Streets. All shows begin at 2 p.m. and last until 11.
