Another ’90s Alternative Band Added To Downtown Live

The fine folks at Raleigh Downtown Live have added two more bands to the grand list of mediocrity.

Joining their ’90s alternative brethren Candlebox is Filter on June 13. Luckily for Filter, they have not been relevant for seven years as opposed to Candlebox’s 14.

Also scheduled to play is The Charlie Daniels Band on July 25. Perhaps Daniels will garner a large turnout due to the appearance of “Devil Went Down To Georgia” in Guitar Hero III.

If you’re interested in jumping on this bandwagon early, plan for May 30 when Candlebox kicks off the concert series. Or if you’re interested in joining the cause to change the course of this potentially great series, head over to Mann’s World.

Don’t get me wrong, I keep my Sirius radio tuned to Lithium nearly constantly. I love some ’90s alternative and grunge. But with such a pool of talent — especially locally — why would anyone book acts that have long since seen their heyday?

Downtown Live is a free outdoor concert series held in downtown Raleigh’s Moore Square at the corner of Blount and Martin Streets. All shows begin at 2 p.m. and last until 11.
