David Menconi of the News & Observer’s On the Beat blog reported on Dec. 9 that county music legend Willie Nelson would perform at the Durham Performing Arts Center on Feb. 20, 2009.

Well confirmation came through from DPAC that the venerable man on the road (again) has indeed been added to the new venue’s ever expanding concert schedule. Opening for Nelson is western swing artists and nine-time Grammy Award winners Asleep at the Wheel.

The show is set to begin at 7:30 p.m. and tickets will go on sale Dec. 19 at 10 a.m. through Ticketmaster.com, all Ticketmaster outlets, the DPAC Web site and box office, and by phone.

In 2006, Nelson collaborated with Ryan Adams on the album Songbird, which featured mostly cover tunes and reinterpretations of classic Nelson tracks. The country crooner followed the release with a collaboration with Merle Haggard and Ray Price entitled Last of the Breed on March 20, 2007; a solo album, Moment of Forever, on Jan. 29, 2008; and a collaboration with trumpeter Wynton Marsalis entitled Two Men with the Blues on July. 8.
