The newly opened Durham Performing Arts Center has announced the addition of John Prine to its growing list of artists who comprise the venue’s inaugural season.

The Grammy Award winner will appear at DPAC Saturday, April 4, 2009. Tickets for the concert go on-sale Dec. 5 at 10 a.m. with prices ranging between $42.50 and $52.50. In addition to the DPAC Web site and box office, tickets will be available through Ticketmaster.com and all Ticketmaster outlets.

Prine has won two Grammys; one for 1991’s The Missing Years and another for 2006’s Fair & Square. He received the Lifetime Achievement Award for songwriting by the UK’s BBC Radio 2 in 1998 after battling throat cancer, and that same year was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.

On Sept. 9, 2005, he was given the Artist of the Year award at the Americana Music Awards.

Recently, Prine released Standard Songs for Average People with Mac Wiseman.
