Country singer David Allan Coe will perform at Lincoln Theatre in Raleigh on March 21.
Coe is perhaps best known for his cover of the Tanya Tucker song “Would You Lay with Me (in a Field of Stone)” and “Take This Job and Shove It,” which was later recorded by famed singer Johnny Paycheck. Coe is also widely known for his albums Nothing Sacred and Underground Album, which are remembered for their vulgarity and racist lyrics.
A best-of album featuring many of his most offensive songs were collected on the compilation 18 X-Rated Hits, released in 1990.
The singer’s last album of new, original material was 2005’s All I’ll Ever Be. In addition to his solo releases, Coe served as the lead singer in the country-metal supergroup Rebel Meets Rebel, which featured Dimebag Darrell, Vinnie Paul and Rex Brown of Pantera. The band’s only album was released in 2004 after Darrell’s death.
